ACTIVITIES

HomeHaven plans several member programs and events per month, most of which are free and to which HomeHaven offers carpooling or other transportation. Some are lectures or discussion groups treating subjects such as literature, the arts, and world affairs; some focus on practical subjects such as health, wellness, and home safety and maintenance. These events are usually led by members of HomeHaven who are expert in these fields.

Other events include visits to exhibitions at museums, gardens, and historical sites in New Haven, and elsewhere in Connecticut. The cost of these trips is the admission to the exhibition plus transportation.

Our villages have regular coffee hours, happy hours, soup Sundays, and garden parties. A monthly gathering at a local brewery is open to the entire HomeHaven community.

Once or twice a year, HomeHaven arranges reduced group rates for attendance at nearby theaters, including Long Wharf, the Yale Repertory Theater, Yale Cabaret, Goodspeed Opera House, and the Shubert. Summer outings have included moderately priced cruises in the New Haven harbor and the Thimble Islands.

Also open to members are a number of small interest groups that meet once or twice a month in members’ homes or on Zoom. These include: Memoir Writing, Pins & Needles (handicrafts with wine or tea and conversation), Cooking in Different Languages, Dining Out, Bridge, Walk & Talk, Philosophy, etc.

Annual HomeHaven celebrations include a Potluck picnic, a December Holiday party and, in March, the Mud Follies, which features performances by talented members and friends of HomeHaven. The Annual Membership Meeting takes place the last Sunday in October.
